Adventure Awaits This Week on Cape Cod!

 

The weather has been wonderful this month, and spring is literally just around the corner. No need to wait, though. Get out there now and enjoy all the Cape has to offer! This week, enjoy a real battle of the bands with the High School Rock Band Wars, learn how to grow your own cannabis outdoors, or take a plunge to benefit Special Olympics! There is always so much happening on Cape Cod!

Through 3/16 Cape Playhouse’s 60th Anniversary Season Cover Art Contest – The Cape Cod Museum of Art and The Cape Playhouse are teaming up for the Cape Playhouse Cover Art Competition 2020. The winner will earn an appearance on the Playhouse’s 35,000+ 2020 performance program covers, and will also be the centerpiece at an unveiling event to be held on Friday, May 1 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. Through 3/30 Community Baby Shower – The Cape & Islands United Way is hosting a baby shower for new and expectant parents experiencing economic hardship. This annual celebration is expected to help more than 300 families statewide this year get a stronger start. You can help supply gifts and the items in the baby box that gets provided to new mothers. Through 4/5 Gardening for Life Series – Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster. Get ready for gardening season with this popular series at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. Attend all classes for $45, or pay by the class and attend either online or in person. ccmnh.org

Through 4/11 Cape Codder Comedy Dinner Shows – The new 2020 Comedy Dinner Show line-up is in the works! The Cape Codder is offering some long-time favorites like Jon Stetson and Comedy on the Road, alongside some exciting new shows like Gaelic vs. Garlic and the John Stetson Psychic Comedy Show! 3/12 CCYP “Slush Month” Benefit – 5 to 8 p.m., Pizza Barbone, 390 Main St., Hyannis. Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP) is holding a series of benefit nights during the month of March, collectively dubbed “Slush Month.” Every Thursday night during the month of March, a different local restaurant or business will welcome locals for great food and entertainment, with a percentage of proceeds for the evening benefiting CCYP’s year-round programming and events. 3/13 High School Rock Band Wars – 7 p.m., Cape Cod Theatre Company/Harwich Junior Theatre, 105 Division Street, West Harwich. This will be a battle of Cape Cod high school rock bands, featuring a live performance by the Rock Band, Club9Ball. The winner opens for Club9Ball at a future live show and will also receive gift certificates from Main Street Music in West Dennis and Charlie’s Music Store in Hyannis.  If you have a band that wants to play contact [email protected]. 3/14 The Craic Music Festival – 1 to 5 p.m., The Club at New Seabury, 95 Shore Dr. W., Mashpee. Team Lanzoni event to benefit The Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A little bit of Irish and a little bit of rock and roll. Featuring bands Pray for Rain and A Band Called Ireland. Come celebrate with us at New Seabury Country Club. Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! 

3/14 25th Cape Cod Natural History Conference – 8:30 a.m., Tilden Arts Center at CCCC, Barnstable. This all-day conference features presenters from environmental organizations across the Cape who’ll speak on different natural history topics. It’s a fun way to learn about local research projects, conservation efforts, and local environmental organizations! 3/14 Growing Cannabis Outdoors – 1 to 3 p.m., Country Garden in Hyannis. Learn how to cultivate cannabis in our region. C.L. Fornari will cover starting plants from seeds, including feminized and auto-flowering types. Learn about fertilizing schedules, common pests and problems, containers, and other information about growing “the new tomato.” This class is for adults 21 and over. 3/14 Polar Plunge to Benefit Special Olympics Cape Cod – 11 a.m., Red River Beach, Harwich. Harwich Police Department is hosting a Special Olympics Polar Plunge to raise money for local athlete programs. $100 fundraising minimum. Registration is at 9 a.m. Visit specialolympicsma.org. 3/14 The Great Osterville Pie Contest – Celebrate PI day! Bring your best pie – sweet or savory – from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Judging is at noon. Samples at 1 p.m. Learn all about PI at 12:30 p.m. Osterville Village Library, 43 Wianno Road, Osterville. THIS EVENTS HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

3/19-3/22 Annual Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival 2020 – This is an annual film festival founded in 2001 and held on Martha’s Vineyard. The festival takes place in March, but the MVFF also produces a summer film series in July and August, a family film series in November, December, and January, and special events at other times of the year. The MVFF annually screens more than 50 films, and many of these screenings are attended by the films’ directors, producers, or subjects – some local, some famous, some local and famous, some famously local. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

3/21 Mess Fest – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster. A fun celebration of all things MESSY. Come squish, muck, splash, stir, build, swirl, hike, and create! Kids can get their hands dirty experimenting and playing with kites, helicopters, fish paint, whale tails, shark teeth, and the ever popular edible dirt cups! Outdoor activities will be included, weather permitting. Admission $8 for non-members, less for members.
