Pumpkin People in the Park

The Pumpkin People in the Park one-of-a-kind creations can be found in Kate Gould Park, on Main Street in Chatham. The public can stroll through the park and see these wonderful creations. Thousands of visitors pose for photo ops with the “People,” who are on display until Halloween. Sponsored by Chatham Merchants Association. “A Moon for the Misbegotten” – Eventide Theatre Company presents Eugene O’Neill’s, “A Moon for the Misbegotten,” directed by Steve Reynolds. Following the events of O’Neill’s classic Long Day’s Journey into Night,”A Moon for the Misbegotten” brings James “Jamie” Tyrone, Jr., to the home of his tenant farmer and frequent drinking partner, Mike Hogan. There he encounters, after many years, Hogan’s daughter, Josie, a woman as tough as her father. During one moonlit night, Josie and Tyrone reveal their true selves to each other. When dawn comes, the moon is gone and so are all their burdens, leaving Josie with a new challenge to her dauntless spirit. Pumpkin Patch – Known as “the Pumpkin Church,” the 12th annual Pumpkin Patch at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church is the largest Halloween nonprofit pumpkin sale in the state.  The church, located at 383 Route 28, will be staffed daily through October 31. The sale hours will be 9 a.m. -6:30 p.m. daily except Sunday hours, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  It has become a tradition for Yarmouth residents, as well as tourists from all over the world, to photograph the church’s expansive, pumpkin-filled front lawn. Many vie to purchase the most unusual shaped pumpkin or gourd, from palm-sized ounces to 50-plus pounds.  Lift up your Forks, a cookbook published by church members, hand-carved pumpkin pins by Roger Jenks, Pumpkin Patch notecards and magnets, and sweet treats will also be on sale.

October 22

Oktoberfest in Chatham – Join the Chatham Merchants Association for the 7th annual Oktoberfest on in Kate Gould Park. Free fun for the whole family! There will be food, a beer garden by Devil’s Purse Brewing Company, local vendors, children’s games and crafts, a corn-hole tournament, music by the Chatham Band, Gary Lamb Entertainment/Acoustic Blasphemy, and Sarah Swain & The Oh Boys. At 4 p.m., there will be a family-friendly, scavenger hunt-style Zombie Tag, presented by David Flower Productions and DeadZone Zombie Tag. 500 Main St., Chatham. Oktoberfestchatham.com.

Cape Cod Doxie Day – Calling all Dachshunds, friends and wiener wannabes. Rain or shine with indoor and outdoor activities. Event includes a wiener dog fun run, red carpet canine fashion show, contests and prizes, photo booth, pumpkin patch, DJ, food trucks, T-shirts, singing of the official Dachshund song and much more. Bring along pet food, clean used towels and blankets, cat litter and pet toys for Cape Cod shelters. This event benefits Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue. An Evening with Art Garfunkel – Don’t miss the legendary Art Garfunkel, live in concert. Garfunkel was originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner and fellow NYC native, Paul Simon. Their greatest hits collection, which includes “Homeward Bound,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Sound of Silence,” “The Boxer” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” among others, is one of the biggest selling album ever. Since parting ways, Garfunkel has appeared in a number of films, released 12 solo albums, and reached the top 10 with his single “All I Know.” This is a show not to be missed. Big Splash of Jazz – International jazz pianist and composer Miro Sprague, known for his brilliant creativity and dynamic performance style, joins with saxophonist Daniel Rotem, masterful improviser and composer with a beautiful sound. Miro and Daniel are both graduates of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where they studied and performed with jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Dracula for Dummies – “Dracula For Dummies” (adapted and directed by Tristan DiVincenzo) pays homage to Bram Stoker’s gothic thriller, “Dracula.”  According to DiVincenzo, “The script crams as many references to the plays, films, pop songs, comic books, cartoons and fan fiction novels that one director can pack into 90 minutes.” The “frightfully talented” acting ensemble is supported by The Harmonics, a gypsy band of musicians.
