BARNSTABLE – The Town of Barnstable is beginning an effort to redevelop Capetown Plaza, the sprawling 26-acre business park across from Cape Cod Mall.

The property is owned by the town and is currently managed by the Barnstable Municipal Airport, which is paid $70,000 a year in fees for use of the space.

Airport officials are hoping to increase rental income after the current 60-year lease expires in 2024, The lease is currently held by a Chestnut Hill development company.

The town is crafting a Request for Proposal that is expected to be complete in about a month.

A public hearing on the property will be held at the Barnstable Town Council meeting Thursday.
