Route 6A in Brewster Closed for Gas Line Leak

gaslineBREWSTER – Route 6A is closed in the area of Sea Pines Drive because of a gas leak.

At approximately 11:35 a.m. a natural gas line was struck by a work crew trying to repair a water leak on Route 6A near Sea Pines Drive.

Route 6A was closed in the area to keep vehicles away from the hazard. The broken gas line was directly below an electric transformer.

As a result, power was cut off in the area, while awaiting the gas line to be shut down.

As of 2 p.m., 822 electric customers were without power in Brewster. By 3 p.m., power was back on.

By 1:30 p.m. the gas line was shut off and crews are currently working in the area to get power restored and address the initial problem of the water leak and broken gas line.

One travel lane is now open to vehicle traffic; however, traffic delays in the area should be expected.
