FALMOUTH – Town officials in Falmouth presented the fiscal year 2019 budget to selectmen earlier this month.
The proposed spending plan comes in a little more than $132 million, which is an increase of just under 3% from the current fiscal year.
Town Manager Julian Suso said portions of the proposal relate to suggestions for additional staffing, including three firefighters, a detective, an administrative clerk for the building department and a water department position.
Job additions also include a part-time building inspector and a part-time conservation regulatory position.
“Beyond that, also the school department is proposed to receive a 2.65 percent increase in the revenues allotted to them to be utilized for their needs as well,” Suso said.
Director of Finance Jennifer Petit said budget increases are also being proposed for snow and ice removal, health insurance, the retirement assessment and the Upper Cape Regional Technical School.
The snow and ice removal budget would be increased from $175,000 to $375,000, or almost 115 percent.
Falmouth’s health insurance and retirement assessment budgets will see increases of almost 6 percent.
And more than $300,000 will go to increase the Upper Cape Regional Tech budget due to increased enrollment from the town. Seventeen more students are attending the school.
