14th Annual Housing Assistance Corporation Telethon to Support Region’s Neediest

DENNIS – Housing Assistance Corporation’s 14th annual Shelter Cape Cod Telethon will take place tonight from 5 to 9 p.m.

Viewers will learn about the work that HAC is doing as well as how other agencies and organizations are lending a helping hand.

Laura Reckford, the Director of Community Relations, said the telethon’s scope has grown.

“When we first started, it was specifically for our NOAA shelter.  Many people didn’t realize that we run four family shelters here on the Cape,” she said.

We want to bring attention to the needs of families as well as individuals who are either homeless or in danger of homelessness.”

Other organizations that will be represented are the Community Development Partnership, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Duffy Health Center and The Veterans Outreach Center.

People who make donations will be able to learn how they are used to help those on Cape Cod.

The need is greater than most people realize, as Reckford explained.

“Those shelters actually have more than 200 families going through, including 200 children, so there’s a real need.”

The night will also feature holiday-themed performances from local musicians.

The telethon will be broadcast on access channels 98 & 99.  It will also be streamed live on www.CapeMedia.org.  Cape Cod Broadcasting’s News Director Matt Pitta will serve as co-host.
