18th Great White Shark Tagged by Researchers This Season

sharkCHATHAM – The 18th shark of the 2016 season was tagged off the coast of Cape Cod on Wednesday.

State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal, working alongside the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, tagged a 10-foot shark off Nauset Inlet.

Three sharks, including a 15 footer off Truro, were tagged on Monday by Skomal and the Conservancy.

Last year, 24 white sharks were tagged in Cape waters, which was up from 18 in 2014.

According to the Chatham Shark Center, 98 sharks have been tagged off the Cape since 2009.

The Conservancy is in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.
