20th Annual Against the Tide Event Upcoming

BREWSTER – The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition will be holding its 20th annual statewide Against the Tide multi-sport event on Saturday, August 17.

The event will have multiple outdoor activities for participants to enjoy.

They range from 1 mile to half mile recreational and competitive swims, to 5K, 10K, and 3 mile fitness walks.

There will also be an Aquathon “Splash and Dash” where participants compete in a 1 mile swim, a 5K or 10K run and then kayaking and paddle boarding.

The events will take place at various times throughout the day, allowing participants to pick any 4.

“I think it’s the comradery of families coming together—it’s really a family event,” Executive Director Cheryl Osimo said on what keeps the event going year after year.

“Working towards that same goal of prevention, it just makes you feel good to know that you’re not alone,” Osimo said.

The Against the Tide event is accepting individuals as well as teams for its activities.

“I think that more and more people are realizing the importance to paying very close attention to preventing cancer before it starts,” said Osimo.

“We don’t want the same grim statistics… it makes sense that we do all we can now to stop cancer before it starts.”

The Cape Cod Against the Tide event will be held at DCR’s Nickerson State Park and runs from from 7 am to 12 pm.

Registration is $40 per adult per event activity and $25 for students. Children 10 years and younger are free of charge.
