KA_Eastham Wildcare auction fundraiser_march_winter_030516_006EASTHAM – A local wildlife organization is trying to reduce the incidents of lead poisoning in animals across the region, and their efforts received a large financial boost this week.

Wild Care held their annual Wild Winter Night fundraiser on Saturday and raised over $23,000 for the effort. A live auction was held to support the organization, with over 150 attendees bidding on sports tickets and memorabilia, tickets to Cape Cod events, and items donated by local businesses.

The non-profit has treated over 22,000 injured and ill wild creatures since its founding, totaling 275 species of native birds, reptiles, and mammals. The organization does not charge for its services.

Wild Care treats anywhere between 800 and 1,400 animals each year. It’s estimated that half of the treated animals are treated for injuries due to human-induced habitat loss.
