BOURNE –  Now in its 25th year, the Buzzards Bay Coalition will be hosting their ‘Buzzards Bay Swim’ in June to protect clean water in communities across the region, from Little Compton, R.I. to Woods Hole.

More than 250 swimmers from all over the South Coast, Cape Cod, New England and the U.S. have already signed up for this 1.2-mile point-to-point open water swim across outer New Bedford Harbor, from the South End of New Bedford to Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven.

Swimmers of all levels ages 11 and up are welcome at the event, and officials say that if you can work up to swimming 40 laps in a pool, you can complete the Buzzards Bay Swim.

If you are a first-time swimmer, kayaks or paddleboard escort are also available for added safety.

At the celebratory finish line party, swimmers are greeted by a cheering crowd, finisher’s medals, a live steel drum band, craft beer tent, and more.

Registration is only $25 with a $150 fundraising minimum.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 30 and Swimmers can register at savebuzzardsbay.org/swim.
