Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton
BOSTON – Three local schools were honored Monday at the State House by Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton for their energy and environmental education programs.
Falmouth High School’s Vernal Pools and Pollinator Gardens Living Laboratories, Maria Mitchell Association and Nantucket Community School’s Nantucket Science Festival and Cape Cod Academy’s Science Program were recognized during the 24th Annual Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education.
A total of 32 schools and non-profits were honored.
State Senator Vinny deMacedo (R-Plymouth) congratulated Falmouth High School for receiving the recognition.
“I am proud that Falmouth, which hosts institutions doing world class environmental research, has invested in continuing that legacy by providing high school students with the opportunity to study and bring about positive change to our environment,” deMacedo said.
Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket District State Representative Dylan Fernandes (D-Falmouth) also congratulated the Maria Mitchell Association, Nantucket Community School and Falmouth High School.
“We need a new generation of leaders committed to scientific and environmental discovery and, after seeing the work these students are doing, you can’t help but feel good about the future,” Fernandes said.
