Habitat for Humanity and Cape Cod 5 Partner for New Dennis Homes

DENNIS – Habitat for Humanity and Cape Cod Five have partnered to help construct three new affordable homes in Dennis.

The organizations were awarded nearly $84,000 in grant funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston for the affordable housing initiative.

Two of the homes will be built on Jannal Drive with the third on South Yarmouth Road.

The builds will provide opportunities for families of different sizes and will include one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. All three homes will be single-family lots.

“They are both in really very nice and comfortable established neighborhoods,” said Vikki Goldsmith, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. “That’s quite nice for the future homeowners.”

One of the homes will be targeted to a family earning at or below 65 percent of the area median income, while the other two homes will be targeted at families at or below 60 percent of the area median income.

“Housing and the need for a variety of different types of housing in our community is something that is clearly an issue and our housing stock here isn’t that diverse,” said Bert Talerman, the First Executive Vice President of Cape Cod Five.

“There aren’t as many opportunities for rental housing, for workforce housing, for entry-level affordable housing as the community clearly needs.”

Applications for potential homeowners are expected to open in mid-February, according to Goldsmith.

“People can check our website or check in with our office in the first week in February and find out when applications are available,” Goldsmith said.

Site work is expected to begin to install driveways and septic systems in the next month and a half.

“We’re looking forward to raising the walls beginning the phase where we are building the homes with the purchasers and the local volunteers in the very early fall,” Goldsmith said.

This is the 12th project between Cape Cod Five and Habitat for Humanity since 2012, resulting in 44 new affordable homes across Cape Cod.
