BREWSTER – The 30th Annual Brewster in Bloom festival takes place this weekend.

The fest kicks off Friday with the fifth annual Antiques and Arts Excursion and the Brewster Band Concert tonight at the Brewster Baptist Church.

Other activities throughout the weekend include the Cape Cod Five 5K Bloom Run Saturday at 10 a.m., the Juried Fine Arts and Crafts Show, the Captains Golf Course Closest to the Pin contest and the Bloomin’ Parade on Sunday at noon.

“It brings thousands and thousands of people to Brewster and to the Lower Cape to enjoy everything we have to offer out there,” said Brewster Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kyle Hinkle.

The event is hosted by the Brewster Chamber of Commerce and fundraising proceeds benefit the Brewster in Bloom grant program which provides scholarships to Brewster students and donations to the Elder Brewster Scholarship Fund.

More than $5,000 each year is invested in the program.

Organizers started the festival 30 years ago to celebrate spring, bring residents and visitors to the town and offer free events.

“At that time in the spring, it was pretty quiet around here, so this really helped to bolster the local economy,” said Hinkle.

The event’s fundraising previously supported a number of projects, including the construction of the band-stand at Drummer Boy Park.
