4Cs and Bridgewater State Sign Housing Agreement for Aviation Maintenance Students

PLYMOUTH – Cape Cod Community College students enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program will now have housing available closer to the Plymouth Municipal Airport.

The college formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bridgewater State University Monday at the program’s hangar that will allow students to live in on-campus dorms in Bridgewater and purchase an on-campus meal plan.

Cape Cod Community College President Dr. John Cox said the agreement is game changer for the program making it much easier for students living longer distances from the airport enroll.

“It’s a doable commute and it makes this program more attainable to students from across the Commonwealth and throughout New England,” Cox said.

The BSU campus is about 30-40 minutes away from the program hangar at the airport.

The intensive 15-month program leads to eligibility for FAA Certification in Airframe and Power Plant maintenance and repair. With a few more general education classes, students will be able to receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

“It makes it a little bit easier to make the decision and to figure out, ‘how am I going to live while I’m going to school if there is nothing readily available?” Cox said. “Now we have taken care of that so it truly becomes a destination program.”

Cox said the housing option was always a part of the College’s plan for the program and that interest had started to come from individuals further and further away from Plymouth.

The agreement also opens the possibility for students to continue on into pilot training or even aviation management through business programs at Bridgewater State.

The dorm will remain open over traditional college vacations and holidays because the 4C’s program takes very few breaks.
