4th Annual ‘Shape Your Cape’ Summit Set for Falmouth This Week

BARNSTABLE – The 4th Annual Shape Your Cape Summit, organized by Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP), is set for Thursday.

The event is a one-day conference for young professionals.

The 2019 Summit will feature an interactive panel discussion and workshops aimed at personal and professional growth, community engagement, and public policy. Sessions are designed to facilitate conversation and action on issues that matter most to young and established workers alike.

A total of three all-conference sessions and nine educational sessions will be offered throughout the day, including a workshop on “Critical Career Conversations,” a panel discussion on the state of entrepreneurship on Cape Cod, and a Housing Advocacy Training in partnership with local organizations, the Community Development Partnership (CDP), Housing Assitance Corporation, and Nexus Werx.

The keynote speaker for the 2019 Shape Your Cape Summit is Roy Heffernan, owner and former Chief Operating “Optimist” (COO) of the iconic “Life is Good” brand.

In his keynote speech, titled “Embracing the Power of Optimism,” Roy will share lessons learned from his professional journey and provide insight on the unique, integrated for-profit/philanthropic model he helped implement at Life is Good.

Heffernan will welcome Heidi Sosik of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as the Summit’s Lunch Plenary Speaker. Sosik is a Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and a past TedTalk speaker.

As a biological oceanographer and inventor, she and her co-workers have developed automated underwater analyzers that enhance our ability to study the microscopic organisms.

As the featured Lunch Plenary Speaker for this year’s Shape Your Cape Summit, Sosik will share how technologies like lasers, robots, and artificial intelligence are teaching us new things about the tiny organisms that make up our world – and having big impacts on our local economies, global climate, and everyday lives.

The summit will take place April 4th from 8:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. at the Sea Crest Beach Hostel in North Falmouth. On-site registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Tickets are still available for $90 for all attendees.

Cape Cod Young Professionals is a non-profit that works to connect, engage, and advance Cape Cod’s young workforce and future leaders.
