700 Turkeys Needed for Lower Cape Outreach Council Charitable Event

turkeyORLEANS – The Lower Cape Outreach Council needs 700 frozen turkeys for this year’s Turkey Distribution on November 21, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

According to Council CEO Larry Marsland, a nationwide avian influenza has cut their main supply of traditional holiday fare from the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Marsland said they’ve been putting fliers up around town, and have now organized two events to encourage both cash and bird donations.

“We’re urging the public: when you go to pick up your frozen bird, pick up a second one,” he said. “It’s a good feeling that comes from making sure that others are able to celebrate, too.”

The two events will take place Saturday, November 14. A turkey round-up at The Farm, 40 Rock Harbor Road in Orleans, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The council will hold a “Turkey Rock” dancing and music event at the Eastham Elks Club on 6A in Eastham at 7:30 that night.

Tickets for that night’s event will be $20 dollars and can be purchased at www.lcoutreach.org/events.

The annual Turkey Distribution will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on November 21.
