7th Annual Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness Coming to Hyannis

HYANNIS – Advocates for those with Down syndrome will be gathering this weekend on the Hyannis Village Green as members of the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress host their 7th annual Buddy Walk by the Sea.

The event will take place on Sunday and is expected to gather several hundred walkers, including those with Down syndrome as well as their family members and friends in order to awareness about the condition and the agencies who work to support those afflicted.

The theme for this year’s event will be “Count Me In” which represents the need for full inclusion and acceptance of those with Down syndrome in all aspects of life including education, employment, health care, public policy, housing, and recreation opportunities.

Funds raised from this weekend’s walk will allow the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress to expand their range of support initiatives, model programs, and public awareness campaigns.

Registration for the event will take place at 10 Am on Sunday and includes participation in the 1.2 mile walk, an event T-shirt, light refreshments, and entertainment. This year that will feature children’s musician Wayne Potash, food from the Centerville Pie Company, and ice cream treats courtesy of Sundae School Ice Cream. The walk itself will begin at 11.
