A Busy Summer at Pleasant Bay Community Boating

ORLEANS – It’s been a busy summer at Pleasant Bay Community Boating with a series of boating programs, in addition to marine education and environmental stewardship programs, as well as their Summer Speaker Series.

PBCB hosted their first Ocean Birding trip launched in July spotting an unusually large group of Common Loons, returning from nesting in Maine and Canada, in addition to Great Shearwaters, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Common Terns, Great Blackback Gulls, Laughing Gulls, and Herring Gulls.

The organization held their second annual week-long class on the ecology of Pleasant Bay. Professional scientists and teachers spent each full day in the field with the kids discussing the local environment.

“How Can We Protect the Whales?” was the subject of this summer’s first speaker series at Hillside Center, followed by “The Birds of Paradox,” and the discussion of trans-Atlantic voyages aboard a tall ship, conducting scientific experiments.

There’s more summer left and more PBCB programs too. learn more at pbcb.cc
