HYANNIS – Gas prices in Massachusetts continue to climb.
AAA Northeast reports that the average price of self-serve, regular is up another 6 cents in the state over the last week to $2.87 per gallon.
The price is five cents below the national average and 59 cents higher than the same time last year.
AAA Northeast Director of Public and Legislative Affairs Mary Maguire says the summer prices are the highest they have been since 2014, but that she does not expect it to impact tourism to Cape Cod.
“We are looking at state here in Massachusetts where you can easily get to Cape Cod on a quarter of a tank of gas, or a half a tank of gas from most parts of Massachusetts,” Maguire said. “If you are going to be hitting the beach and not driving a lot during your weeklong vacation this summer, it still becomes a very reasonable proposition to travel by car.”
According to GasBuddy.com, prices on Cape Cod range from $2.79 to $3.04 per gallon.
