Absentee Ballots Indicate Strong Turnout in Barnstable

BallotBARNSTABLE – Barnstable officials say the polls could be busy tomorrow.

Using requests for absentee ballots as an indicator, the town says they could be looking at a strong turnout for a mid-term election.

The town clerk’s office has already processed over 1,400 hundred requests for absentee ballot. That’s a significant uptick over previous mid-term years when absentee ballots have totaled around 1,000.

“I think that when you get more absentee ballot requests you have a tendency to get a higher turnout at the polls. So maybe we’ve fired everybody up and we’re going to have a lot of people come out to vote,” said Barnstable Town Clerk Ann Quirk. “I’m not sure if this has to do with the questions this time around, but it appears to us here at town hall that a lot of people are coming out to vote that may not have,” Quirk added.

Polls are open until 8 PM.
