ORLEANS – Following the announcement made by the Academy of Performing Arts that it would close for the winter due to financial issues, the organization is holding several visioning sessions to help determine its future.
The Academy is inviting anyone from the public interested in helping the Orleans-based organization shape its future for the next 50 years.
The first focus group will be held Tuesday night from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It will be focused on actors, musicians, singers, dancers, choreographers, designers, directors, and anybody with a direct involvement with theater production.
“We’ve been able to identify some helpful issues working with our instructors and ideas of doing some increased collaboration and some new things that we can add to the school. There’s some real talent over there with some experienced and professional people. We’ll be looking to utilize those talents even more so,” said the Academy’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Peter Brown.
A series of focus groups have been scheduled by the Academy. These focus groups are casual and engaging 90-minute directed sessions focused on figuring out the best plan for the organization.
“There’s a series of questions a consulting person we’re working with has done and we’re giving people sticky notes to put their answers on them,” Brown said.
“We’re co-weighting all of that information and that’s going to culminate in a report back to the Board in the beginning of February. It’s going to have multiple types of input.”
The next session will take place on Wednesday, January 23 from 4:00 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. for volunteers and anyone else interested in attending.
A final session will be held for patrons, donors, and sponsors on Tuesday, January 29 from 7:00 p.m. through 8:30 p.m.
