Affordable Housing Project in Falmouth Still Short on Applications

FALMOUTH – Applications for two affordable housing units in Falmouth are still scarce.

Boston-based Maloney Properties has received only one application for the condos in The Village at Old Main.

The deadline to apply is October 11.

Brokerage Division Director for Maloney Properties Jonathan Diffenbach still believes applicants will file to enter the lottery for the properties.

“We’ve had close to 6,000 page views on the website,” Diffenbach said.

“So we’re getting a lot of traffic, and we know that applications are being picked up online as well as the location that they’re available in town.”

The condos, both with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, are priced just over $230,000 with a monthly fee of $157.

In comparison, market rate condos in the same complex cost over $700,000. Income limits for applicants cannot exceed 80 percent of the median income of the area.

Yearly income limits depend on the number of people living in the condo, and applicants may not have more than $75,000 in assets.

Diffenbach explained that the application is complex and some may be waiting until the last possible moment.

“This application is really intense in terms of documentation you need. So, just a matter of finding time to sit down and put that all together, and put it in an envelope, and mail it to us, it’s like a second job practically,” he said.

Maloney Properties is hoping that a least a dozen applications are in by next Friday’s deadline.
