Agencies Join to Offer Support for Male Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Abuse  

HYANNIS – Independence House and the Violence Recovery Program of Fenway Health are teaming to form and facilitate a male survivors support group for men who have suffered from domestic or sexual abuse.

In Massachusetts, one in five men have experienced domestic abuse, while one in six men are survivors of sexual abuse as a child. Advocacy experts say men find it more difficult than women to step forward for help, which is one of the reasons the nine-week group is being formed.

“We try to do anything to offer services, and with a support group, a lot of times it’s easier for people to know that others are going through the same thing,” said Chris Morin, Independence House Director of Prevention, Outreach and Education.

The group sessions will begin on September 29^th at 6 p.m. For privacy reasons, the location of the group sessions will not be disclosed publically.
