All-Cape Beach Cleanup Collects 500 Pounds Of Trash

HYANNIS – Over 250 volunteers gathered across 14 towns on Cape Cod to participate in the second annual  All-Cape Beach Cleanup.

The cleanup was organized by the grassroots nonprofit, sustainable practices. The volunteers picked up over 500 pounds of trash.

The trash included cigarette butts, plastic bottles and caps, straws and balloons. The sustainable Practice event took place on September 28th and was in partnership with COASTSWEEP.

“The success of this event is in the community building and the coming together of community members across the cape to meet and work together to care for our environment”, said executive director Mahavi Venkatesan.

In 2019 the group initiated the municipal plastic bottle ban. So far 6 out of 15 towns have adopted the ban.
