All-Time Classic “The Quiet Man” Coming To Cotuit

COTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts will present “The Quiet Man” as part of their 2nd Wednesday Theater series on March 14.  It will feature a staged reading of the screenplay for John Ford’s acclaimed classic.  The movie starred  John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.

The story follows a boxer who, after accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, leaves America and returns to his native Ireland, hoping buy his family’s homestead and live in the peace and that paradise his Mother had told him about.  Upon his arrival, he is forced to face an adversary who has wanted the property for a long time, and falls for the man’s Sister.

Ford considered it his best picture and, having believed that his real name was Sean, renamed the main character after himself.

A clip of a romantic scene from the movie makes an appearance in the film “E.T.” and is  referenced in the 2015 film “Brooklyn”.  Nine years after the movie was released, it was made into a musical called “Donnybrook”.

The town the movie was filmed in is a popular tourist spot with a Quiet Man Museum  and a pub in the same building portrayed in the film.

The show starts at 7:30 and admission is free.  There will be wine available for just $5 a glass.
