FALMOUTH – Falmouth scientist Mark Alliegro called John Chapman to concede the primary race in the Ninth Congressional District just after 1 p.m. today, after calling town clerks in all 46 towns in the district.

Alliegro said that he did not concede on primary night because he was following numbers from the town clerks and the numbers from the Associated Press and the two sets of numbers did not jibe.

Given the late hour, after 11 p.m., Alliegro, whose election night party was in at unit at the Kenyon Plaza on East Falmouth Highway, sent all his supporters home and decided to review the results in the morning.

He said this morning that he and his supporters called the clerks and crunched the numbers and realized the results were not in his favor.

“We realized we had to congratulate the winner of the Ninth Congressional race, John Chapman,” he said.
