FALMOUTH – East Falmouth resident Mark Alliegro is once again attempting to become the state representative for the 9th Congressional District.

Alliegro was defeated by John Chapman in the 2014 Republican primary by just over 500 votes.

Chapman later lost to democratic State Representative William Keating.

“What I’m going to bring to the table is: A. Common sense and B. Representation and service to the people of the 9th Congressional District,” Alliegro said. “Those are two things that are sadly lacking right now.”

Alliegro does not believe Keating has been a good choice to serve on the House Committee on Homeland Security.

“He has voted, essentially, to greenlight Iran to have nuclear weapons,” he said. “On every occasion possible he votes in favor of things like sanctuary cities in the United States and open borders.”

Alliegro said Keating has been weak on the enforcement of illegal immigration.

“It’s not so well known that more than half of the heroin that comes into this country comes across our southern border.”

Alliegro is leaving his full time appointment as a professor of molecular biology and biochemistry at Brown University to run for Congress.

The 9th Congressional District includes Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties.

Primary elections in Massachusetts are September 8.
