EAST FALMOUTH – In his second attempt at his party’s nomination for Congress, East Falmouth resident Mark Alliegro easily defeated Marshfield’s Tom O’Malley in the Republican primary for the 9th Congressional District.

Alliegro more than doubled O’Malley’s vote total district-wide and in Barnstable county, picking up nearly 8,700 votes on Cape Cod as of early Friday morning.

The 9th Congressional District includes Cape Cod, the islands, and parts of Plymouth and Bristol counties.

Alliegro now faces incumbent Bourne Democrat William Keating in the general election. Keating has held the seat since 2010.

Alliegro was defeated by John Chapman in his first run for Congress in 2014.
