American Airlines Adds Summer Service to Nantucket Airport

BB_Nantucket_WelcometoNantucketSign_Summer2015NANTUCKET – Nantucket Memorial Airport is going to be busy this summer.

Airport officials have announced that American Airlines will be adding weekend service to Nantucket from LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

“Anytime we add a new destination, it’s a major improvement in our quality of air service,” said Airport Manager Tom Rafter. “LaGuardia is tremendous because New York is one of our biggest draws.”

The airline will be flying their 70-seat Embraer 170s to the island.

“We’ve been talking to American for a year or two now about various alternatives and additional destinations and we mentioned different options,” said Rafter. “They did an analysis and finally came back to us with the announcement of the LaGuardia service.”

The airport was recently impacted by a loss of freight and passenger service in December when Island Airlines abruptly closed down.

American Airlines service will begin June 4 and run through September 4.
