Animal Rescue League Reminds Pet Owners About Emergency Preparations

HYANNIS – The Animal Rescue League of Boston is reminding people to include their pets in emergency preparation plans as a part of Emergency Preparedness Month.

Pets should always have a sturdy and comfortable crate to be stored in, if transportation during an emergency is necessary.

A waterproof bag filled with vital items should also be prepared. Items that pets may need during emergencies include:

-At least three days’ worth of food and water

-Portable bowls for food and water

-A manual can opener and utensils

-Kitty litter, newspaper, potty pads, and litter boxes that can easily be disposed of

-Trash bags, paper towels, and other sanitation needs

-A first-aid kit

-Collars with ID tags

-Extra leashes

-Items for grooming

-Medical records (stored within a waterproof bag) and medications

-Bedding

-Toys and treats

Preparation of this kid ensures pets’ microchip information is up to date. FEMA also suggests carrying a picture of your pet, in case they are separated.
