HYANNIS – One of the biggest car shows in New England each year attracted tens-of-thousands of spectators to Main St. in Hyannis Sunday.

Crowd estimates for the 22nd Annual Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce Father’s Day Car Show were put at or above 80,000 people.

The show featured over 400 special interest cars including antiques, classics, customs, street rods, muscle cars, sports cars, race cars, kit cars, trucks and more.

KA_Father's Day Car Show_061816_001Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jessica Sylver said it was a major success for the town.

“We’ve got tons and tons of cars. The street is filled with wall-to-wall people, we are very excited. We are happy to be here today,” she said.

Bright sunshine and mild temperatures helped drive the crowd to the event after rain and lightning cancelled the event last year.

Sylver said the yearly event is a great way to kick off the summer season in Hyannis.

“Word of mouth is huge for us. Year after year we get a lot of the same cars, the same people, they love the event, they love the location,” she said.

Retiring Barnstable Town Manager Tom Lynch was this year’s honorary event chairman.
