HYANNIS – One of the largest car shows in New England returns to Main St. in Hyannis on Sunday.
The Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce Father’s Day Car Show will bring almost 100,000 visitors to downtown Hyannis Sunday between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The event will feature hundreds of cars between Ocean Street to Sea Street, a large craft fair on the Village Green, street food and open shops and restaurants.
“We have I think over 300 cars already registered and of course we take same day registration as well as long as there are spots available,” said Todd Deluca, the chamber president and CEO.
“It’s going to be a full street for sure.”
Deluca said the event has a major economic impact on Hyannis.
“People come in early and they have breakfast and often times they stay after the show ends at 2:30 and enjoy shopping or dinner,” Deluca said. “That’s a great direct impact.”
Deluca says the car show not only provides a direct economic impact with tens of thousands of visitors, but also showcases downtown to draw people back for a return visit.
As the summer tourist season begins to pick up as the school year finishes, Deluca said things are looking good for downtown Hyannis.
The chamber is getting ready to install the new visitor’s center at the head of the Village Green on the sidewalk.
“Visitors are going to have easy access to information so we can help people who are visiting Hyannis, educate them about what is going on and tings to do,” Deluca said.
Deluca said there are some new businesses along Main Street and others that have received face lifts over the winter.
“I think Main Street is looking great,” he said.
