Annual ‘Pot of Gold Sunday’ Returns to Falmouth in Support of Military Families

FALMOUTH – The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation’s annual Pot of Gold Sunday is back this weekend to support Cape-based military families.

Through the event, the foundation provides programs and services to military families at Joint Base Cape Cod and Coast Sector Southeastern New England with proceeds going to the Children’s Fund – an extension of the Family Service’s Program.

Funds raised during the Pot of Gold Sunday will also go towards making up money spent by the foundation in feeding military and Coast Guard families during the partial federal government shutdown.

Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Executive Director Don Cox said that funds raised during the event go a long way, as many of these families just need a little bit of help to stay afloat.

Cox adds that due to the partial federal government shutdown, the foundation has been “behind the 8-ball a little bit.”

“We spent the month of January feeding over 3,600 Coast Guard families in New England, about 12,000 people. We bought 608,000 pounds of food between all of the sources we get our food from,” Cox said.

“The money we used to do that fine deed was the money from this fund.”

The purchase of a $100 ticket allows guests to enjoy a large buffet and enter to win $10,000 cash in the raffle, which Cox says isn’t even the biggest prize this year.

“The big prize is the autographed helmet we have and Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and Bob Kraft have signed it. We had it appraised by two memorabilia dealers and its well in excess of the $10,000 prize, right now as it stands,” said Cox.

“If they all make it into the Hall of Fame it could be up over $20,000 to $25,000.”

The Pot of Gold will be held at the Cape Club in Falmouth on March 10. The event kicks off at 11:00 a.m.
