Annual Restock the Shelves Food Drive Underway

Bay Area Food Bank Distributes Thanksgiving Turkeys To The NeedyHYANNIS – The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod’s 3rd Annual Restock the Shelves Food Drive is underway.

All nine of the bank’s branches will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to help food pantries restock after Thanksgiving.

Donations will be accepted throughout the month and will be delivered to food pantries across the Cape on Giving Tuesday, November 29.

“During this season of giving, we encourage everyone to generously donate for our friends and neighbors,” said Joel Crowell, President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, in a statement. “Our local food pantries serve hundreds of Cape Cod families each Thanksgiving and we want to help them restock the shelves in anticipation for the holidays.”

Sharon Howard, the volunteer coordinator of the Falmouth Service Center, said the monetary donations are just as important as the food donations.

“We have much greater purchasing power for our dollars when we purchase food through the Greater Boston Food Bank, where every dollar is equivalent to $5.00 of product,” Howard said.

The donations will be made to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, Hands of Hope Food Pantry, The Yarmouth Food Pantry, Salvation Army Hyannis, Grace Veterans Center Food Pantry, St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Francis Xavier and Christ the King, The Sandwich Food Pantry and the Falmouth Service Center.
