PROVINCETOWN – Hundreds will walk the Cape from end to end this week starting Monday during the 23rd Annual Bob Murray Housing with Love Walk.
The event, which starts in Provincetown and ends in Falmouth the following Sunday, raises money for 11 organizations which support affordable housing and homeless prevention in the area.
Volunteer Don Jenkins said the walk contributes necessary funding that otherwise might not be raised.
“Homeless prevention is not heavily funded by the state,” he said. “Most of the state’s funding goes to Homeless Services—which is important—but these agencies rely heavily on private donation.”
The trek’s founder, Robert Murray, who led the Falmouth Housing Authority and was a tireless advocate for housing causes, started the event in 1993 and walked it 20 times. After he died in 2013, the walk was named in his honor.
