‘Anything But a Boat’ Race to Make Return to Woods Hole

WOODS HOLE – It’s quite easy to catch a regatta if you bring your beach chair to the shores of Buzzards Bay, also known as one of the most popular boating destinations in the country.

This month, the Woods Hole Business Association is collaborating with the local science community to bring an exciting and unique race back to Great Harbor.

For the first time since 2005, the Anything But a Boat Race is returning to Garbage Beach. The 20-vessel race is scheduled for Sunday, September 16.

The race calls for the participants to create a human-powered “unboat” to round stationed markers in Great Harbor.

According to the rules, no surf boat shells, surf boards, or other commercially available vessels will qualify.” Organizers say that prizes will be awarded as well.

The race is also a part of the “The Sea Around Us” – two days of free and fun events celebrating the legacy of Rachel Carson, a well-known marine biologist credited with advancing the environmental movement to an international stage.
