APCC Asks Governor Baker To Send Letter Opposing Drilling Plan

DENNIS – The Association to Preserve Cape Cod has sent a letter to Governor Charlie Baker regarding the Trump administration’s offshore oil drilling plan.

The communication asks the governor to take a stronger stance in fighting the proposal which would open the East Coast, including Massachusetts, to the presence of rigs.

The group wants Baker to express his opposition to Interior secretary Ryan Zinke and request a reversal of the decision, which would open 90% of the continental shelf to private oil companies in the the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the Gulf of Mexico and more.

The AAPC said an oil spill would do untold damage to the Cape’s communities, economy and fragile marine environment.

A similar request was made to the governor last week by the entire Massachusetts Congressional Delegation.

Before the release of the plan, Baker sent a letter to Zinke which informed him that the Bay State does not support drilling in the North Atlantic.
