BARNSTABLE – Town officials in Barnstable are working to fill a vacancy on the Barnstable School Committee.

Margeaux Weber resigned from her seat on the committee just hours after taking office for a third term in December. Weber was unopposed in her re-election bid in November.

There will not be a special election to fill Weber’s spot. Instead, the replacement will be appointed in a joint decision by the Barnstable Town Council and the School Committee

Interested applicants are invited to submit their resume at the Town Council office or the School Department office. The deadline to apply is January 12.

Councilors and School Committee members will conduct interviews from January 16-19. Two finalists will then advance to a second interview before the full Town Council and School Committee on February 1. A vote will be taken on the matter that night.

Weber spent 8 years on the board and served as its chairwoman for 6 of those years.

She mounted an unsuccessful campaign for State Representative in the 2nd Barnstable District in 2016, losing to Cotuit resident Aaron Kanzer in the Democratic primary. Kanzer was defeated by incumbent State Rep. Will Crocker (R-Centerville) in the general election.
