Applications Available for HAC’s Big Fix

homebuildingBOURNE – The Housing Assistance Corporation will be holding its sixth Big Fix event this fall in Bourne.

The Big Fix is a day-long event to help veterans, senior citizens and those who are disabled with small home repairs.

Applications for Bourne residents in need of home improvements are available now at Bourne Town Hall, Bourne Veterans Memorial Community Center, Jonathan Bourne Public Library and the Cape Cod Regional Chamber of Commerce or online at www.haconcapecod.org.

“Once we receive the applications our team here at Housing Assitance will go out with our maintenance person, who is a general contractor, and we will meet each and every one of those applicants to access their needs and see if we have the ability to help them out,” said HAC project manager Kate Ferreira.

The application deadline for repair for those in need is September 1.

Ferreira said those interested should get applications in sooner rather than later.

“We are going to start visiting applicants in the beginning of August,” she said. “The process starts early. If anyone knows of an individual or family that is elderly, disabled or a veteran and they think they are interested in participating, I encourage them to get the applications in.”

The Big Fix is in its sixth year. It started in Barnstable and is making its way through every Cape town.

Residents in Sandwich, Dennis, Mashpee and Yarmouth have benefited from the home improvements.

“It’s a really fun event for everybody involved and of course all the homeowners are super appreciative,” Ferreira said.

Ferreira said to volunteer or make donations visit www.haconcapecod.org.
