BREWSTER – The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster location recently collaborated with the Middleboro Police and Animal Control Departments to seize 24 animals from a property with dangerous living conditions.
Most of the animals were Cane Corso and Dogo Argentino dogs, with a peacock, donkey, chicken, and ducks involved as well.
“The condition that they were in, for lack of a better term, they were inhumane,” said ARL Media Relations Officer Mike DeFina.
“They were living in filth and, really, it was just unsafe for both animals and people.”
The ARL has now begun the process of rehabilitating these animals in their shelters, including their Brewster location. Specifically, the dogs are friendly, but require extensive attention and training before being put up for adoption.
“They’re about two to four years old, so they’re going to have to work on everything, from learning how to sit, to stay, and walk on a leash, that sort of thing,” DeFina said.
“We’re really taking baby steps with them, so it could be a while.”
The police investigation is still ongoing. Charges potentially could be pending.
