BREWSTER – The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster location will host a low-cost rabies and microchip clinic Saturday, September 14.
The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ARL’s Brewster Animal Care and Adoption Center on Route 6A.
The cost is $10 for a rabies vaccine and $20 for a microchip.
Pets will receive a tag verifying the vaccination and microchips will be registered on-site.
All dogs and cats living in Massachusetts are required by law to have an up-to-date rabies vaccination.
Microchipping is not required by law, but if a pet becomes lost, a microchip drastically increases the likelihood of a reunion.
An AVMA study shows that 52 percent of dogs with microchips are reunited with owners versus just 21 percent of dogs without a microchip. Reunion rates for cats with microchips is 38 percent compared to just 1.8 percent without a chip.
