Artists Needed For Hyannis Shanties

HYANNIS – Artists and artisans who would like to be a part of this year’s Hyannis Hyarts Cultural District Artist Shanty Program, can submit an application to the Town of Barnstable.

Although last year featured seven shanties, Special Projects Coordinator Melissa Hersh says there’s a need for a few more this year.  “We are thrilled that this year we are able to expand the program.  We will have up to ten artists at a time during the week with the expansion of our shanty program.”

For the first time there will be two locations.  Along with the established Bismore Park site, the three new shanties will be situated along the Walkway-to-the-Sea at the Harbor Overlook.

Hersh says both artists and businesses benefit from the program.  “It’s a win-win situation.  We help promote local artists. We give them an affordable opportunity to work and sell.”

The featured art includes paintings, woodcarving, Jewelry, photography, glass work and much more.

The shanties are open weekends May through mid-June, then seven days a week until Columbus Day.  The three new Harbor Overlook locations will remain open on weekends until December.

Applications are available online at www.ArtsBarnstable.com.   The program has been running since 2005.
