SANDWICH – Artists from across the region will be setting up easels along the streets of Sandwich next Friday to draw or paint their favorite scene and share the experience with the public.
The Sandwich Arts Alliance is sponsoring the innaugural “Plein Air Sandwich” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s an adventure,” says Mary Smith, the event’s co-chair. “When we’re out painting, people offer their opinions. Animals drink the painting water. Things get knocked over, brushes lost. A great day is had with a bunch of artists and onlookers. And great memories are made.”
Artists will be wearing turquoise t-shirts and a “location map” will be set up in front of the Palette Gallery, next to Café Chew in Merchant’s Square.
“The quality of the work should be very high given the talent that has signed up,” said Margo Mancinelli, the events other co-chair. “This is a perfect event for the Sandwich Arts Alliance to undertake because it brings art into the community and showcases the talent locally.”
A silent auction featuring the artwork will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horizon’s Restaurant.
