BARNSTABLE – There are currently 15 members on the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates and 3 on the Board of Commissioners.
But one Delegates member thinks that collection of legislators should be condensed to just one 5-member elected body.
Patrick Princi said a reduction would both save money and keep county constituents well-represented.
“It’s not unconstitutional what I want to do,” Princi said. “The voters in each individual town will be represented by their district representatives, and it will allow the government as a whole to run much better.”
Each of the delegates are paid $1,000 per year and their family’s health insurance plans are covered up to 75 percent.
Princi’s ordinance also includes the creation of an advisory finance committee.
The ordinance requires majority approval by the assembly, ratification from county commissioners, approval from the state legislature and approval from voters.
