YARMOUTH – The Association to Preserve Cape Cod is highlighting their efforts throughout 2017.
Over the year, the organization remained a consistent presence at the Massachusetts Statehouse, speaking out on behalf of members on issues and legislation affecting the environment and Cape Cod’s natural resources.
APCC staff testified in person before the Legislature and submitted written testimony on over a dozen bills filed during the current legislative session on priority issues such as climate change, water pollution, better land use laws, pesticide use, protecting public lands, preserving pollinator habitat and funding for environmental programs in the state budget.
They also came out in favor of the Cape Cod Water Protection Trust, regulations on short-term rentals, land use and zoning reform, and restrictions for herbicide spraying in utility easements.
The organization has opposed a measure promoting housing and sustainable development as well as the Massachusetts Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.
They also installed and monitored a real-time video system in Brewster in 2017 to study the health of herring.
