HYANNIS – A number of highly-sought-after low-numbered Cape and Islands license plates will be auctioned off this summer to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Cape & Islands license plate program.
The Cape & Islands License Plate Marketing Committee will make available a series of two and three digit plates between 1-999. Officials say the plates have never been issued.
Since its inception, the program has generated more than $23 million to support more than 550 local organizations and businesses. Proceeds are generally used for economic development initiatives, community grants, small business loans, local arts efforts, and workforce training.
The auction will be conducted online at 501auctions.com/capeandislandsplate from 6 a.m. on August 13 to 5 p.m. on August 18. Registration is open now and a full catalog of the available plates is available.
There are more than 42,000 IC plates on the road.
“We are very excited to announce a limited time release of low number plates in the IC series for this charitable online auction,” said Wendy Northcross, the CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman of the Cape & Islands License Plate Committee. “Not only can you get a previously unobtainable plate, your tax-deductible donation will provide funds for meaningful job creation, business assistance, visitor services and workforce training program both here and on the islands.”
