BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration has tapped Brian Shortsleeve, a one-time political director for Mitt Romney, to serve in the newly-created position of chief administrator of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
In making the announcement Thursday, Baker called Shortsleeve a “proven leader” with a successful record of fixing and operating complex organizations of all sizes.
Shortsleeve will work with a financial control board that was recently formed to oversee the struggling Boston transit system. Officials say he’ll focus on the financial health of the T while interim General Manager Frank DePaola and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Gonneville will focus solely on operations.
Shortsleeve was political director for Romney’s successful 2002 gubernatorial campaign. The one-time U.S. Marine also worked at Bain & Company, a business management consulting firm co-founded by Romney, and at General Catalyst Partners.
