Baker Checks Up on Plymouth Pier Reconstruction Project

plymouth-bakerPLYMOUTH – Governor Charlie Baker toured the site of a major pier reconstruction project last week.

His office approved a $2 million dollar grant for the reconstruction, which the town matched, in order to replace the 90-year-old town pier near East Bay Grille.

Plymouth-Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo said that the concrete replacement of the old wooden frame will allow for more fishing boats to dock and gas at the pier, which in turn will result in a boost in the local economy.

“We know the significance of the fishing and lobster industries in this region, yet having the resources to give fishermen a good port to fish out of is always challenging,” he said.

According to deMacedo, the pier was not suitable for gassing prior to its reconstruction, due to concerns that the fuel and wooden construction could make for a hazardous combination.

Construction on the project began in May, and deMacedo said it is expected to be done by early December.
