BOSTON (AP) — Despite different political and personal backgrounds, Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, Democratic House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Democratic Senate President Stan Rosenberg have managed to forge a bipartisan image during Baker’s early months in office.
The “big three” as they are often called at the Statehouse, notably cooperated on the strategy of hiring a consultant to review Boston’s now-defunct Olympic bid before committing to any support.
They have also largely avoided public bickering on other key issues such as the overhaul of the beleaguered Boston-area transit system.
But it remains to be seen how long the alliance can hold up without serious cracks.
Democratic Party officials recently took Baker to task for vetoing $162 million in “critical services” from the state budget.
The Legislature later overrode $100 million of those vetoes.
