BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker and Attorney General Healey are planning to announce the findings and recommendations of the governor’s opioid working group.
Baker and Healey will be joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders at a press conference at the Statehouse today to detail the report.
Baker named the panel in mid-February, and since then it has met with experts and interest groups to get a better understanding of opioids and addiction. That group includes Gosnold of Cape Cod CEO Ray Tamasi. Cape Cod towns have seen a dramatic rise in overdose deaths in the past year.
The panel held four public hearings in different areas of the state to solicit feedback directly from the public.
A surge in overdoses claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in the state last year.
This week the state also launched a public awareness campaign aimed at educating parents about the warning signs of opioid abuse.
